SCOPE

SCOPE stands for Sarasota County Openly Pursuing Excellence, a non-profit organization that aims at community development.  We all call it SCOPE!

SCOPE has been studying “Aging: The Possibilities” for several years, and sponsors a Winter Forum every February.  Guest speakers have shared intriguing interests with us, and it inevitably generates conversation.  To keep these sometimes provocative dialogues alive, I facilitate an open meeting called Continuing the Conversation (CtC).  There are over 300 citizens who are or have been involved in these meetings which we hold 4 – 6 times each year.

There are “work groups” you can join. Here is a list of the groups:

  • Healthcare
  • Brain Health
  • Professional Caregivers
  • Housing
  • Work Matters! and Financial Concerns
  • Creative Arts and Vitality
  • Internet Uses

Each group describes its mission on the CtCsarasota.com website. Click above to go there.

We believe that our interests importantly focus on the aging related  issues of Sarasota County, a large county with more people 65 and older than any other county in the USA “by a long shot”, 31% vs. the low 20′s.

The brand new Institute for the Ages will study our unique demographic and hopefully aid other counties that will grow toward a similar demographic.  You can read about it at theinstitutefortheages.com .

SCOPE’s web site is at www.scopexcel.org .  Meetings of the CtC are announced to our participants there.

YES941

YES stands for Young Entrepreneurs of Sarasota.  We define “young” as 100 years of age or lower, and we make exceptions!  YES participants meet every Tuesday from 11:45 – 1:15 to learn about being successful entrepreneurs.  There is no official membership, just participants.  There are no dues, we just pay for lunch. The meetings are at Clayton’s  Siesta Grill on Siesta Key.

We have courtesies, not rules.  We turn off our cell phones.  We don’t talk while others are presenting. We participate freely.  We don’t over promote our own businesses, and we are not a networking group.  We also keep our various talks within time limits, usually 5 to 10 minutes, so that we can have engaging discussions and finish by 1:15.

YES has a “ning” website at www.YES941.com, and there is a weekly newsletter.  The web site has an international following including over 1200 members. Our profiles are housed there.

Each week one of us volunteers to present about a famous entrepreneur.  We intend to learn from these talks and apply them to our own efforts.  At times there are guest speakers invited by our leader and facilitator, John Greer.  We also rotate several other processes that allow us to know about each other’s business success (Know your Entrepreneur, Business Clinic, and Critical Incident Success), and also allow us to offer some ideas for success when they are asked for. We’ve also recently tried our own version of the TV show, Shark Tank.

Our meetings are high energy in character.  Join us!
