Elements of a strategic plan include:

The mission statement – A mission statement describes what an organization does, what markets it serves and what it seeks to accomplish in the future. It serves as a guide for day-to-day operations and acts as the foundation for future decision making.

Goals and objectives – Goals set the agenda and are global in nature while objectives are more specific and short-term. They should be measurable, quantifiable and consistent.

Strategies – The rules and guidelines by which the mission, goals and objectives will be achieved. They are also called tactical plans.

A "SWOT" analysis examines the organization’s Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.

Force field analyses examine driving and restraining forces supporting or working against change.

Tactical Plans define the steps for implementation of the strategic plan, including who is responsible and by when. Sometimes this is known as the critical path.
